Blogging from the Scratch

Starting a blog is one of the most residual way of making money on the internet. If you are new to blogging you will be confronted with many challenges ranging from how to setup your blog to selecting your blogging platform. A blogging platform is the software that will help you turn your writing into a website that can be easily navigated and accessed by visitors from around the world.

There are two basic platforms to choose from when it comes to successful blogging, these are Wordpress and Blogger. Both platform have their advantages and disadvantages. I will advise you read and understand the pros and cons of each then decide on the best option for your needs.

I will encourage you to start with blogger because it has several advantages. Apart from being of more advantageous it is very easy for beginners to use. Some of the merits of blogger include the following:

i. Blogger is totally free;

ii. The owner of the blog don't have to purchase a domain name as the system will give you an address base on the name of your blog;and

iii. Posting to your blog is at ease. You can also change the look of your blog very easily; this is done through blogger's dashboard where if you have more than one blog on blogger platform all will be access on this same dashboard.

However, Blogger does have some major demerits when it comes to creating money making blogs. Some of these are highlighted below:

i. You will get a free domain name with your Blogger blog; but the domain name will be "yourblogname.blogspot.com" instead of "yourblogname.com";

ii. The design and function of a Blogger blog is very limited. Thereby making your blog to look like any other blog and making it difficult to stand out from most others on the same platform. You can also download and install custom themes for the blog; and
iii. As a blogger on Blogger platform you will never truly own your blog because the files and content are hosted on Blogger's server.

It also good to discuss a little about the second platform Wordpress for blogging. There is a free option that is similar to Blogger and there is also a free option that allows you have your own website name.

Other advantages of Wordpress include the followings:

i. Wordpress have numerous themes that are diverse some of which will make your blog look like an online newspaper; and

ii. The functionality of the wordpress can be increased through "plugins" and thereby helping you to make most out of your site.

Though wordpress look more professional but it also have its own shortcomings. It is not user friendly like Blogger as well one will spend money before getting a domain name and website hosting.

Conclusively, many professional bloggers prefer wordpress because they will have ability to maintain ownership of their blogs and customizing it to their taste. The choice is yours to make for which of the two will sooth your needs.
